If you’re a childcare educator looking to work independently and source flexible relief shifts through Your Staff Hub, you’ll need an Australian Business Number (ABN).
The good news is that applying for an ABN is simple and free. You can apply for an ABN online through the ABR website.
Simply follow these steps:
- Visit the ABR ABN application page
- Select “Apply for an ABN”
- Choose your business structure (for most educators operating as self-employed, this is usually sole trader)
- Provide your personal and business details
- Describe your business activities (e.g. relief childcare educator providing temporary staffing for childcare centres)
- Submit your application.
Most applications are processed instantly, and you will receive your ABN immediately. However, in some cases, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) may review your application, which can take up to 28 days.
